Czech Republic / Actors=Thomasin McKenzie / creator=Taika Waititi / directed by=Taika Waititi / Reviews=1944 Germany. Ten year old Johannes Betzler, more commonly called Jojo, is the son of good Germans, his father away fighting in Italy, while he is under the care of his mother Rosie, with his older sister Inge recently having passed away from illness. With only one true friend in the form of same aged, bespectacled Yorki, Jojo, in wanting to fit in, is arguably entering what he would consider the most important phase of his young life in attending a Nazi youth camp presided over by Captain Klenzendorf, Captain K's almost too faithful assistant Freddy Finkel, and Fräulein Rahm, who takes Nazi policies in a slightly off-kilter direction. Despite being considered an outsider by most of the other youth in town, Jojo figures he has a leg up on everyone else at camp in that he is constantly being guided by the spirit of Der Führer himself, Adolf Hitler, whose personal bodyguard Jojo aspires to be when he grows up. In his general day-to-day life but also supported by his time at camp, Jojo has a hatred for Jewish people despite not really knowing anything about them or ever having met anyone of the Jewish faith, the ultimate goal to kill them. So when Jojo meets someone Jewish for the first time, especially as that meeting is in what is for him the most unlikely of circumstances, Jojo has to figure out what to do. While truly believing he is a Nazi despite not really knowing what that means, he has to decide either to follow what he has been taught in hating and trying to kill any Jewish person despite knowing that killing is not in his true nature, or not, which may have larger consequences with relation to family. While he decides, he truly gets to know the person beyond the label of "Jewish" which may factor into what happens / Ratings=8 / 10 star.

A small character but a god damn amazing and wholesome one. An issue I see though is how do you have a constructive discussion with someone who doesn't engage with reality? If you explain what gravity is and demonstrate it repeatedly and they still deny it, what then? Communication can only function when people are willing to engage with reality. J c3 a4nesp c3 bcks jojo model. I just wonder, when we talk about today's easily-offended culture to which culture we might be comparing it to? Which time and/or place was the idyllic historical apex of free speech? Because I've generally found that whichever period people think that is (their own childhoods usually) was just the one where the jokes weren't at their own expense. It's also emphatically false that the freedom that allows satirists to make films is the same one that allows Nazis to march in Charleston, and it's the failure to distinguish between the two that ACTUALLY makes the fight for a free society so damn difficult.

Speaking of free speech, I just tried to search this video and nothing came up until I used a specific set of works like don't and like. 2:03 Hitler looks ready to kill with the face he makes after Jojo runs off lol. J c3 a4nesp c3 bcks jojo c. Love it when an American doesn't get a pitching joke. As a Brit it's easy to see he's clearly referencing cricket. I really applaud Taika for believing we should never forget the effects of war, and examining how children are affected by war. The fact that so many in Europe had to go through genocide in the past, and that now the Rohingya and Uighur amongst others are being affected by genocide is horrendous.
1:55 suggests that Russia (which should be the Soviets) are coming, suggesting the are on the Eastern Front. While later on, its the American in the town. Am I the only one who noticed this? Amazing film btw. Thor Ragnorak honestly made me feel so represented as a Pacific Islander. This is one of the best opening scenes I have ever seen. I went into this movie pretty blind and was hooked from the jump. Jojo is such a great and character and this kid hit it out of the park. He's adorable and innocent and exuberant - and of course a Nazi. Really enjoyed this film and glad I gave it a shot. From the very little I read it about it I was apprehensive, but this movie is outstanding and this scene is all time for me. PANTHER COURAGE.
I feel like this audience never understands others sense of humour, especially the British/Australian/kiwi. Eat your cereal. I didnt realise the audience was even there until they got given something pack of dummies.

This movie is about a kid who wants to be a Nazi but deep inside he's a more heroic person. The temptation to become a Nazi is represented by his imaginary friend Adolph Hitler. The kid finds a Jewish girl his mother is hiding in their house and he has to choose whether to turn her in or not. The film at times is funny but it also has many flat moments when the adults aren't on screen and it doesn't work as well it should given the gravity of the subject matter- it also too many goofy woke-tropes that take from the emotional realism.
